Follow Me On Instagram

Yes... my photography can be seen and followed on Instagram. I decided to try it and show some images there. What I didn't realize is that Instaram is a huge forum for professional photographers. The caliber of Photography is amazing. I had no idea.
Sure there are people snapping selfies and  taking shots of food, but the reality is that there are way more experienced professional photographers there.
It is actually easy for me to add images from my phone. The really cool thing is that there are great photo editing tools for tablets and smartphones that are fantastic to use for creativity.
You don't need a smartphone to view my photos there.
So if you get a chance, check my work out on Instagram and let me know what you think. Enjoy.

Yosemite Magic

This is a re-do of an image from 2010 called Yosemite Magic. It is an HDR image from 3 bracketed shots. Using Google's Nik software  -HDR Effex Pro 2. This software really allowed me to bring out the detail from that grand sunset.

Fun At The Rock

One of my photos (along with a few others great local photographers) is in the new Morro Bay Visitors Guide. I was asked if they could use it and I was happy to share it for promoting Morro bay and The Central Coast.
Here is the image called Fun At the Rock

I have been working in my living room and temporary studio for the past 2 weeks framing and matting. It is a lot of work, but always worth it.
I just received my Bald Eagle on Canvas Print. Here is a sneak peek if it.

Hard Flight

When I go out photographing birds, one of the things that fascinates me the most is observing their behavior. Especially Bald Eagles.
It is not only about getting the shot, though......getting a great shot is the ultimate achievement.
I have been going out to photograph this pair of Bald Eagles for the last few years. It never ceases to amaze me the behaviors that I witness.
For this shot, I waited 6.5 hours. I watched this Eagle in the tree way across the lake for what seemed like forever.
I knew it would feed again but didn't know when. I only had a short time before the sun would drop low and I would lose the light.
I thought I would be going home without getting the thrill of a close flyby.
Then it took off and flew further away hovering really close to the water. I could see water fowl dive under the water as it flew near.
It flew out of sight around a far off cove.
Some time later here it came.... flying fast over the ridge and off to the side with a pretty nice size fish.
But instead of flying on back to the nest area, it stopped 3 times to rest before it was out of sight.
That was something to see. And it really makes me realize how hard they work to survive.
It was a thrill to witness and I am ready to do it all again.

Mountain Lion Encounter !
I was heading home on a back country road and this beauty came out not too far in front of me. When it saw me it froze and then ran to the brush. I stopped to look for it and there it was just watching me with tha...t unmistakable stare. I was close to my car and was well aware of the danger. I was losing the light fast so conditions were not the best. But I was so thrilled to actually see a Mountain Lion looking back at me. It just sat down and allowed me to take a few shots. Maybe it was sizing me up. I was actually shaking from excitement and well maybe from a little nerves too.
If I had been passed that area just a few moments too soon or later, I would have missed seeing it at all. It felt like a gift.
It is something I will never forget.
